“This is happening all over again.”

Dublin’s Villagers started as a one band under the “direction” of Conor J. O’Brien – who bears semblance in both name and appearance to Bright Eyes captain Conor Oberst.  And though I must admit O’Brien’s style straddles the same alt-folk line as Oberst’s, I do know that the former is getting a lot more play in my daily music diet than is the latter – and that isn’t for a lack of any Bright Eyes enthusiasm. After asking a few friends to jump on board to help him play live, the group rechristened themselves as Villagers. Besides releasing scores of great music in the brief two years since becoming a band, they’ve also played on both sides of the Atlantic.  The band has a short US run starting later this week after returning to Ireland to play through the summer. The debut LP, Becoming a Jackal, is out now via Domino.  The video above is a new acoustic session shot with the fantastic Manchester Scenewipe.
