We Were Promised Jetpacks, "The Last Place You Look"

We Were Promised Jetpacks, performing “A Far Cry”

I was able to catch Scotland’s We Were Promised Jetpacks last night as they swung through Minneapolis to play the recently renovated Varsity Theater. It’s astounding to witness the quick, but still wholly deserved, success and acclaim the young band has acquired at seemingly breakneck speed. The band’s debut album “These Four Walls” was released just last summer and they already find themselves headlining a small U.S. tour in support of it. Along with their labelmates Frightened Rabbit, WWPJ has released one of the most fantastic and dynamic rock records in the past year – and quite clearly, one of my favorites.

Also, the newly recorded and as of yet tour only EP The Last Place You Look is available at all upcoming shows. The EP is available digitally, but if you’re looking for a physical copy your best bet at the this point is to attend a show, and you’ll be glad you did, in order to pick one up. The disc contains three new tracks, as well as alternate versions of “Short Bursts” and “This Is My House, This Is My Home.”

A live performance of new track “A Far Cry” can be seen above. Take note that this was not recorded last night in Minneapolis.

For a far more comprehensive and, quite frankly, well-written review, check out Erik Thompson’s account of the show over at City Pages.
