“You’ve got to live free to stay free.”
Young songwriter Ryan Osterman is Arizona’s enigmatic Owl & Penny. He has already released two finely crafted EPs this year, the most recent of which came out digitally only a few days ago via Phoenix indie label River Jones. Both Stolen Silver and the newest, Fever Dreams, are full of unassuming lo-fi folksy jams. Being a young man in Arizona never sounded quite so sullen, but I give Osterman mounds of credit for being able to capture the apparent drudgery so beautifully. “Freight Trains,” from his first disc, is one of my favorite tracks from the past few months.
